Privacy Policy

Mark is a minimalist moment-capture app built on one principle: your personal data belongs to you and only you. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, how it is used, and what rights you have.

By using Mark, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Location

When you mark a moment, the App requests your precise GPS location once — at the exact moment of capture. Location is:

• Requested only when you actively tap the orb to save a point
• Never collected in the background
• Never transmitted to any server
• Stored locally on your device as part of the moment's data

If you decline location permission, the App continues to work normally — your moments are saved without coordinates.

1.2 Microphone (Mark Plus)

If you choose to attach an audio note to a moment (a Mark Plus feature), the App accesses your microphone only during the recording session you initiate. Audio recordings are:

• Stored locally on your device as .m4a files
• Never uploaded, streamed, or transmitted anywhere
• Deleted from your device when you delete the associated moment

1.3 Camera (Mark Plus)

If you choose to attach a photo to a moment (a Mark Plus feature), the App opens your device's camera. Important:

• The App accesses the camera only — it does not access your photo library or Camera Roll
• Photos are taken in the moment and stored locally on your device as .jpg files
• No photo is shared, uploaded, or transmitted
• You cannot attach existing photos from your gallery — this is intentional, reflecting the app's philosophy of capturing the present moment

1.4 Text and Tags

Any text notes or tags you add to a moment are stored locally on your device. They are never read, processed, or transmitted by us.

1.5 Purchase Information

Mark Plus subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. We never see, receive, or store your payment information, credit card details, or Apple ID. Apple's Privacy Policy governs the payment transaction.

1.6 What We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect your name, email address, or any account information — the App requires no account
• We do not collect device identifiers (IDFA, IDFV, or similar)
• We do not use analytics SDKs (no Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or similar)
• We do not use advertising SDKs or show ads
• We do not collect crash reports automatically
• We do not track you across apps or websites

2. How We Use Information

Simply: we do not use your information. All data the App accesses stays on your device. The App has no server, no backend, no database outside your phone. The only purpose of the data is to display it back to you inside the App.

There is no account to log into. There is nothing to sync. There is no analytics pipeline. Your moments are visible only to you, on your device.

3. Data Storage and Security

All data — moments, notes, audio files, photos — is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. The data lives in the app's sandboxed storage, which is:

• Protected by iOS's built-in sandboxing and encryption
• Included in your iCloud Backup if you have iCloud Backup enabled on your device (this is controlled by iOS, not by us)
• NOT synced to any server operated by us

We recommend you use a device passcode and Face ID / Touch ID to protect all apps on your phone, including Mark.

4. Data Sharing

We do not share your data with anyone. There are no third-party services, advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics companies receiving information from Mark.

The only exception is what you choose to share yourself — for example, if you use the Share feature inside the App to send a moment via Messages or another app. In that case, you are sharing the data, not us.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

You are in full control of your data:

• Delete individual moments inside the App at any time
• Delete all data by uninstalling the App — all locally stored moments, audio, and photos are permanently removed

We have no copies of your data and cannot recover it after deletion.

6. Children's Privacy

Mark is rated 4+ on the App Store and does not knowingly collect any data from children under 13. Because the App collects no personal data at all, there is no special risk to children's privacy. We nonetheless comply with applicable children's privacy laws including COPPA (U.S.) and GDPR Article 8 (EU).

7. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, California, or another jurisdiction with privacy rights legislation, you may have rights including:

• Right to access — what data we hold about you (answer: none, everything is on your device)
• Right to deletion — you can delete all data by deleting the App
• Right to portability — your data is already fully portable: it's on your phone
• Right to object to processing — there is no processing to object to

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this document. If the changes are material, we will notify you through the App or via the App Store update notes.
